Job Description

TOPS Telecommunications Inc. (TOPS Office Solutions) is seeking a VoIP / Network Technician to join our Technical Assistance Centre in Kamloops, BC. This is a full-time position supporting our UCaaS VoIP platforms, legacy phone systems, network equipment, and communications wiring. This role involves both in-office work and on-site customer visits. You’ll be part of a collaborative team dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and service VoIP Unified Communications platforms.
• Program VoIP phones, softphones, ring groups, and IVR (Auto Attendant) systems.
• Provide end-user training on VoIP platforms.
• Install and maintain firewalls, routers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, and communications cabling.
• Service legacy PBX systems (Mitel, Toshiba, Nortel, Panasonic).
• Document all service activities, change logs, and customer interactions in our internal ticketing system.
• Collaborate on large projects with other team members.
• Participate in after-hours service work and on-call rotation.

Required Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) model.
• Understanding of SIP and TDM voice technologies and protocols.
• Fundamental networking knowledge (routing, switching, Wi-Fi).
• Experience with computer hardware, servers, and virtualization.
• Experience with the configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of network equipment (Ubiquiti, Cisco, Fortinet, HP).
• Understanding of Layer 1 technologies (cabling, materials, standards).
• Strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a life-long passion for learning.
• Reliable transportation and valid drivers license for required field work.

Preferred (Value Add) Skills

• Experience with VoIP and/or legacy PBX platforms.
• Valid Cisco networking certifications.
• Experience with Linux operating systems.
• Familiarity with Cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud).
• Programming experience (Python, Go, C++, or similar).
